Energy Leaks
This past year was one of the most difficult in my life and it highlighted some pretty strong energy leaks. And that was AFTER being a resource parent through a pandemic all while during my first year of marriage.
Shit got REAL. Marriage got real, financial commitments got real and I stood toe to toe with the person I WAS in contrast with the person I WANTED to be.
At some point in the process, I began to think of energy exchanges as systems.
Within any system, it’s possible to have leaks.
Because I believe in taking ownership over my own circumstances, I started to look more closely at two systems - my personal energetic system (a closed system) and interpersonal energetic systems (open system exchanges).
In both systems, I have ownership over my contribution to the equation.
Energetic leaks make themselves known through your body and your thoughts. Uncontained energy manifests itself in frenetic, fragmented or anxious sensations. Sound familiar?
From where I sit, collectively we don’t listen to our own energetic system well enough to know what the interacting or interdependent group of items that form our WHOLE even ARE. So, it makes sense that we feel anxious, frantic, uncertain and disconnected.
Here’s the thing - Within our own energetic systems, we have the ability through our awareness to contain the system or not. Energy is actually neutral. It’s our engagement with it that gives it meaning.
Picture an inflated balloon that gets a puncture. That thing will fly around in frenetic movements until it’s depleted. When the balloon is depleted, the “system” collapses.
When your energetic system is depleted, it collapses. It collapses in response to an imbalance in required fuel, movement, thoughts and rest.
For me, the minimum requirements to a contained and well functioning system are my 5 pillars: Eating for Nutrition, Alcohol Free (imperfectly so), Sleep, Meditation & Movement.
This is my baseline. If I’m feeling “off” or irritable or anxious, this is where I return. If any one of these things is out of balance, it’s an energy leak.
Yours might look a little different. The trick is getting to know your own system. Really owning it and realizing you have the option to return your awareness in every moment.
When I think of my personal energetic field as a system, I notice I have less judgment. I’m kinder to the leaks because I can view them simply as indicators of where more of my awareness is needed.
Instead of thinking of myself as a failure or blaming others, I get to choose in that moment of awareness where I redirect my attention and ownership. This is where my life becomes a practice - in the thousand, small, daily choices to step back into ownership.
This mindset shift changed the game for me.
